QuipWHATS?A QuipTrack is a lot like a commentary track on a DVD, except that it is not built into the DVD, you have to play it in an MP3 player, a computer, or any other device that will play an MP3 file. We recommend playing the MP3 file and the DVD on the same computer. But that's just one way to do it. Here's how it works. First you download the QuipTrack and load it into your MP3 Playing device. How you do this depends on your device, but if you ever listen to MP3 music files you already know how it's done. Next you play the QuipTrack just like you would play a music file. There will be a short and (we hope) entertaining introduction where we tell you what movie we are riffing and give you instructions on how to sync up the track with the movie. (In fact, everything in the rest of this description will be covered in that introduction, so you don't really have to keep reading if you don't want to.) At some point in the introduction we will describe a certain point at the start of the movie that we want you to watch for. This is usually when a certain name in the credits appears, or when a title fades out. It depends on the movie. Then we will tell you to pause the QuipTrack. You do this just like you would pause a song. You then start playing the movie and watch for the moment we described in the introduction. When you see it you unpause the QuipTrack. Voila! You're cookin' with gas! Both the movie and the QuipTrack are playing now, and you are listening to both at the same time. From that point on, the QuipTrack will interject jokes and wisecracks based on lines and action in the movie. If you want to know what kind of jokes, watch some of our previews! There's just one more thing you might need to know. If you are playing the QuipTrack and the DVD on different machines, sometimes one plays ever so slightly faster than the other. After a while it could become noticable and the jokes would be in the wrong place. To prevent that, a beeping robot named beeper occasionally makes a sound on the QuipTrack that should occur right when there is a shot change in the movie. If the beep occurs before the cut, you pause the QuipTrack briefly to let the movie catch up. If it occurs after the cut, you pause the movie. That's it! So go download one now and, as we old school computer people say, enjoy! |
